-- Grissom High School hosted its Saturday at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center with 870 students from schools across Alabama competing for the highest scores.Additionally, one school from California and another from New York competed in this year's event.Students participated in five levels of competition including pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Comprehensive through a written multiple choice test and ciphering. But unlike most most competitions out there, where only four students get to cipher, the Grissom Mathematics Tournament allows all students to participate in this portion of the competition, making it one of the largest ciphering competitions in the nation."It's a really unique event that not many schools can offer," Grissom student, Taylor Foor, said about the ciphering. "Everyone can participate. And they have the opportunity to check out the Space Center while they are here. We are so thankful that they host the event."Foor was one of the students in charge of this year's competition. According to Foor, Grissom students serve as volunteers by organizing and working the event as well as coming up with the math problems for the competitors."This competition would not be possible without the students," Foor said.
