Full house gutting and refurbishment

"It is easy for the Websters (Michael and David Webster) to say to prospective client’s that this is a false review and the facts were fabricated, and this is the sole reason I have written a lengthy review with images attached to support the below facts. I really hope nobody goes through what we have and are ripped off by the cowboys. I would not want anybody to face the horror situation we have faced and I hope the review below is useful, I urge you to read it in full if you are considering using Webster Design and Build LTD (WDB Ltd) for your building projects going forward.

As much as I did not want to leave the relationship with a sour taste in my mouth, I was forced to write this review given the fact that Michael came to site and stated “how does it feel going to sleep knowing you and your family will always have to look over your back” and as clients were assaulted by Michael (and evidenced).

We employed WDB Ltd as of 31st July 2020. It was 15 months in and the project was far from complete with numerous mistakes, lack of communication and most worryingly - threats to the homeowners and immediate family members. We were forced to evict WDB LTD from the site after they refused to return our house keys the day following a burglary in which the rear bedroom window was left open, front door left unlocked, ladders left in the garden to enter via the bedroom window and no lights/alarm/CCTV installed - materials were all on site since May.

We delivered bathroom/plumbing, doors and flooring in April; we delivered the kitchen in June 2021 and all of these had just started to be fitted in September. 15 months after the build started the project was at least 3 months off completion (1-2 workers attending a day). In terms of plumbing work, 3 shower valves were fitted, 2 of which were tiled over in June. We asked the builders not to tile until the system was pressure tested and they refused. When we returned back to site, there were leaks in one bathroom and fittings done incorrectly in the 2nd. Both must be broken and retiled to rectify the issues. The 3rd valve in the downstairs bathroom is leaking which needs to be rectified. The drainage in the downstairs bathroom was installed at an upward slope (drainage flooding issue), and there was no solid base under the wet room tray. The tiler refused to tile the area until it was remediated. 3/3 bathrooms done incorrectly. Further to this, the boiler and tank were installed with serviceable parts not accessible (tank and boiler to be removed every service).

We had damp issues when being built as can be seen in the images. The building work was done over the winter months and the blockwork was still very wet. The moisture had soaked through, the dot and dab absorbed the water and damaged all the plasterboard. Upon asking them about this they said its very normal and just plastered it over.

The home was supposed to be sand + cement plastered, without us knowing they plaster-boarded the entire house only to say sand and cement was not possible after it was done (incorrect as stated from an external advisor). The skimming which was done was also of shoddy workmanship. The initial plasterers they had used were fantastic (left due to personal conflicts with WDB Ltd) & new plasterers were shocking as evident in the pictures.

With regard to Electrics, WDB Ltd were supposed to fit heatmiser thermostats which were replaced by cheaper quality replacements with no mention before actioning this. The CAT6 wiring was incorrect everywhere (images attached – brown vs brown/white cables). The LED drivers were never installed as agreed (in a centralised place) and the excuse from David was “the drivers cannot be located that far”. Evidently the brothers have no clue with regards to electrics, as two rooms were directly above the centralised driver location (<10m cable run needed).

I urge you to strike them off as reputable builders. I have pictures to evidence if necessary."
