Replacement and fitting of new PVCU Patio Door, bay window, garden door & window, and bathroom window.

"I contracted for replacement PVCU Patio Door, bay window, garden door, and bathroom window. The job was due to take place over 2 days. On day one, the fitter arrived to fit the Patio Door. Before work commenced, I was handed an envelope that said in red letters, "Please pay the installers". I was alarmed as I did not think it was reasonable to expect payment immediately before a time to allow for inspection after installation. Also I was not told about this method of payment before signing the contract.

It then became clear why immediate payment is requested, as the finished product did not look right and was unacceptable because;

- frame sealant was not applied;
- draught from gaps below the frame;
- frame header protruded from the wall;

The fitters also failed to protect wood flooring that resulted in scratches when the old fitting was dragged across the floor.

I contacted the company to postpone further work until the issues were examined and rectified. 25 days later, I was contacted by a Manager to arrange an inspection of the Patio Door installation.

On inspection, the Manager confirmed the issues to be put right in a schedule of work. He was unapologetic, and with the attitude that recompense for customer dissatisfaction does not exist.

The Company website advertises their commitment to excellent Customer Service. All I can say is since making a complaint to Customer Services in January 20, they have failed to communicate whatsoever. I doubt they have a "Customer Handling Procedure" as advertised, and I was not provided with a copy of it as stated in the contract.

As a member of the GGF, the company should comply with the Code of Practice. It appears that Anglian Home Improvements have breached the GGF Code which I did not expect from a National Company..
